Why is satan allowed to rule this world

How did it come to be that God has allowed Satan to rule the world in consideration that the Bible informs us that “In the beginning, when God created the universe, the earth was formless and desolate. The raging ocean that covered everything was engulfed in total darkness, and the Spirit of God was moving over the water. Then God commanded, Let there be light”—and light appeared. God was pleased with what he saw. Then he separated the light from the darkness, and he named the light Day” and the darkness Night.” Evening passed and morning came…..”? (Genesis 1:1-25)

The Bible further informs us that “Then God said, And now we will make human beings; they will be like us and resemble us. They will have power over the fish, the birds, and all animals, domestic and wild, large and small.”  So God created human beings, making them to be like himself. He created them male and female…”. (Genesis 1:26, 27)

In reading our article entitled, “Tired of Pain and Suffering” we have established that Satan is the ruler of this world.  John, the brother of Jesus,  further expounded on this subject by writing, “We know that we belong to God even though the whole world is under the rule of the Evil One. (1 John 5:19).

Satan’s Challenge to God

Since the misery of Satan’s rule is something that we face and struggle against every day, it is necessary that we understand how it presents itself in our lives. We can gain a lot of insight in to this matter by reading  Genesis 3:1–6, when the serpent comes to Eve in the garden in Eden:

“Now the serpent was more crafty than any other beast of the field that the Lord God had made. He said to the woman, Did God actually say, You shall not eat of any tree in the garden?” And the woman said to the serpent, We may eat of the fruit of the trees in the garden, but God said, You shall not eat of the fruit of the tree that is in the midst of the garden, neither shall you touch it, lest you die.’” But the serpent said to the woman, You will not surely die. For God knows that when you eat of it your eyes will be opened, and you will be like God, knowing good and evil….”

Eves response, however, entertained the possibility of standing in judgment over God, which leads Satan to challenge what God had said by telling her, You will not surely die” (Genesis 3:4)

In essence, Satan not only challenged God’s right to rule but as is written, Satan implied that God could be judged by his own creations.  Years later, Satan again challenged God’s right to rule.  “ One day the angels came to present themselves before the LORD, and Satan also came with them. The LORD said to Satan, Where have you come from?” Satan answered the LORD, From roaming throughout the earth, going back and forth on it.”  Then the LORD said to Satan, Have you considered my servant Job? There is no one on earth like him; he is blameless and upright, a man who fears God and shuns evil.”  Does Job fear God for nothing?” Satan replied.  Have you not put a hedge around him and his household and everything he has? You have blessed the work of his hands, so that his flocks and herds are spread throughout the land.  But now stretch out your hand and strike everything he has, and he will surely curse you to your face.” The LORD said to Satan, Very well, then, everything he has is in your power, but on the man himself do not lay a finger.” Then Satan went out from the presence of the LORD.”  (Job 1:6-12)

Hopefully, by understanding Satan’s previous challenges to God and his claims that God does not have the ultimate right to rule over his own creations, you now have a better understanding of why Satan has been given temporary rule over this world.  However, to better understand why we are under the rulership of Satan, we must learn more about Satan.  For more information, please read our article entitled, ‘Who is Satan.’
