Come to Jesus

come to jesus

ARE YOU READY TO COMMIT YOUR LIFE TO JESUS CHRIST?

Jesus is waiting for you.  He loves you and he wants you to enjoy the peace that comes from committing your life to him.  All that is necessary to find the peace in life we truly deserve is to have faith in Jesus. Come to Jesus.  Paul instructs us as follows:

Therefore, since we have been justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ. (Romans 5:1 [ESV])

Additionally, Paul refers to the fruit of God’s Holy Spirit as:

But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness (Galatians 5:22 [ESV])

HOW CAN YOU COMMIT YOUR LIFE TO SERVING JESUS CHRIST?

First, you must come to the realization that we are all sinners. The bible tells us that:

as it is written: “None is righteous, no, not one;  (Romans 3:10 [ESV])

for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.  (Romans 3:23 [ESV])

NEXT, YOU MUST REALIZE THAT IF YOU DO COMMIT YOUR LIFE TO JESUS, YOU WILL COME TO JUDGMENT BECAUSE OF YOUR SINS.

And just as it is appointed for man to die once, and after that comes judgment (Hebrews 9:27 [ESV])

So then each of us will give an account of himself to God. (Romans 14:12 [ESV])

And I saw the dead, great and small, standing before the throne, and books were opened. Then another book was opened, which is the book of life. And the dead were judged by what was written in the books, according to what they had done. And the sea gave up the dead who were in it, Death and Hades gave up the dead who were in them, and they were judged, each one of them, according to what they had done. Then Death and Hades were thrown into the lake of fire. This is the second death, the lake of fire. And if anyone’s name was not found written in the book of life, he was thrown into the lake of fire. (Revelation 20:12-15 [ESV])

ADDITIONALLY, YOU MUST REALIZE THAT YOU CANNOT SAVE YOURSELF

We have all become like one who is unclean, and all our righteous deeds are like a polluted garment. We all fade like a leaf, and our iniquities, like the wind, take us away. (Isaiah 64:6 [ESV])

he saved us, not because of works done by us in righteousness, but according to his own mercy, by the washing of regeneration and renewal of the Holy Spirit (Titus 3:5 [ESV])

MOREOVER, YOU MUST REALIZE THAT JESUS CHRIST DIED ON THE CROSS TO PAY FOR OUR SINS

He himself bore our sins in his body on the tree, that we might die to sin and live to righteousness. By his wounds you have been healed. (1 Peter 2:24 [ESV])

and from Jesus Christ the faithful witness, the firstborn of the dead, and the ruler of kings on earth.  To him who loves us and has freed us from our sins by his blood (Revelation 1:5 [ESV])

NOW IS THE TIME TO RECEIVE JESUS CHRIST BY FAITH AS YOUR PERSONAL SAVIOR

But to all who did receive him, who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God (John 1:12 [ESV])

Then he brought them out and said, “Sirs, what must I do to be saved?  And they said, Believe in the Lord Jesus, and you will be saved, you and your household. (Acts 16:30, 31 [ESV])

For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. (John 3:16 [ESV])

Salvation is accomplished by trusting and receiving Jesus Christ as your Savior. It is trusting in the fact that Jesus Christ died on the cross of Calvary to pay for your sins! It is realizing there is absolutely nothing whatsoever you can do to save yourself and completely trusting in Jesus Christ to save you! It is not any church that saves. It is not baptism, not good works, not sacraments, not repenting, not praying through, not enduring to the end, not living a good life.

For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God, not a result of works, so that no one may boast. (Ephesians 2:8-9 [ESV])

HOW I CAN BE SAVED?

Please pray this prayer with all sincerity and commitment:

Father God, I come to you right now, in the name of your most Holy Son, Jesus Christ, asking you to accept me as a Christian.

You say in your word that if I confess my sins and ask forgiveness, you are faithful and will forgive my sins and remember them no more.  You will not hold them against me and you will give me everlasting life.

Father, I confess that I have sinned against you.  I have not followed your commandments and I have broken your laws.  I repent of my sins and ask for your forgiveness.

Father, I believe that Jesus Christ, Your only Son, came to Earth and was born, that He lived among us, and that he was crucified to pay for our sins and for my sins.  I believe that you raised Him from the dead and gave Him power over all creation.

Lord, right now I accept Your Son Jesus as my Savior and as the Lord of my life.  Send the Holy Spirit to guide me, protect me, lead me and counsel me.  Send your angels to gather around me and protect me. Protect me from Satan and his evil forces.  Help me grow in wisdom, knowledge and love for and your ways.  Give me the strength and courage to change my ways and resist the Devil and avoid sin in the future.

Lord, I thank you for sending your only Son to die so that I can live.

Jesus, I thank You in that you died for me while I was still a sinner and had not yet accepted you.  I thank you for forgiving my sins and for bringing me to a saving knowledge of you.  Please bless me and protect me.  Teach me to pray.  Guide me.  Increase my faith, and make me sure in the knowledge that I can rely on you, no matter what may come.  Lead me to a good church where I can learn your word and the Father’s will, where I can fellowship with Christians and grow in my knowledge of you.

I ask these things in your most holy and precious name, and I thank you for making me a Christian.  Amen!

IF YOU EARNESTLY PRAYED THE AFOREMENTIONED PRAYER, YOU ARE NOW A CHRISTIAN!

Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has passed away; behold, the new has come. (2 Corinthians 5:17 [ESV])

As a Christian, you have obligations.  Christianity is not a “vaccine” you take once and everything stays the same.  You must sincerely try to change your ways to avoid sin.  God will help you do this.  When you feel tempted to sin, immediately ask God for grace and strength to resist the Devil.  If possible, get away from the temptation.  Sometimes, this means you may have to avoid people or places you used to like, such as singles bars.

NOW THAT I AM SAVED, WHAT SHOULD I DO NEXT?

Join a church.  The biggest mistake you can make at this point is to accept Christ and try to “go it alone.”  You do not have to join the first church you visit, but do not spend the next six months “window shopping” either!

Jesus Survives would like to invite you to attend a good Bible-based church in your area. As a Pastor himself, Bill knows how important it is for every believer to have a healthy church home where they can connect with other believers and grow in their faith.

We suggest that you join a moderate-size church — one with at least several hundred members, but no more than about one-to-two thousand members.  With less than a few hundred members there is too much of danger of financial problems and church politics, where a handful of long-time members run roughshod over the pastor.  With a congregation of several thousand, there is too much of a tendency to become “just another number”, where your spiritual needs are not being met.

Ask how long the current pastor has been there and how long the previous pastor was there. A high turnover rate could indicate a church that is wracked with politics.

Attend a bible study group.  You do not have to attend Bible study group to be saved, but you definitely will benefit from one.  Realize that in most churches, adult Bible-study groups are substantially different from “Sunday School” you may have attended when you were a child.  If they are not, you probably should look for a different church.

And let us consider how to stir up one another to love and good works, not neglecting to meet together, as is the habit of some, but encouraging one another, and all the more as you see the Day drawing near. (Hebrews 10: 24, 25 [ESV])

CHRISTIANS ARE NOT PERFECT — JUST FORGIVEN

Please do not think that just because you are now a Christian you will not ever sin again.  When you do sin in the future, do not think that it proves God did not really accept you.  God is interested in our effort, in our good intentions.  Humans are not sinners because we sin; we sin because we are sinners.  It is our nature to sin.  God helps us to reduce the amount we sin, but even he cannot keep us from ever sinning again.

If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. (1 John 1:9 [ESV])
